Meatless Monday
I am going to start another new plan in the house so I will go Meatless Monday (or one day per week). Were those moans and groans I heard from my family as I type this? I swear I have not lost my mind for those of you who know this former meat and potatoes Texan girl. I will consume no meat one day a week from here on forward. Because I’m time limited for blogging and work full-time, I’ll categorize the Meatless Monday meals so you can come back later and find them as they may not always be posted on Mondays, because I’m not sure I can always blog and keep to the Monday schedule.
As described by the Mayo Clinic, here are the major health benefits of going meatless just one day a week:
- Reduce your risk of heart disease by as much as 19%
- Reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes by 21%
- Save your family $600 per year
- Live Longer: Red and processed meat consumption is associated with increases in total mortality, cancer mortality and cardiovascular disease mortality.
If you do eat meat on other days, or don’t want to go Meatless Monday with me, I strongly recommend grass-fed, free-range, hormone-free, locally raised, minimally processed and organic options when possible.
